Supercars Young Gun Signs on as Lanotec Ambassador

Lanotec is proud to expand its motorsport involvement, signing on young gun Jay Robotham as a product ambassador ahead of this weekend’s Bangsaen Grand Prix, extending through to this year’s Repco Supercars Championship endurance races.

Joining tarmac rally legend Glenn Ridge in the Lanotec family, Robotham, who made his Bathurst 1000 debut last year, has recently been confirmed alongside Cameron Hill at the Truck Assist-backed Matt Stone Racing squad for this year’s Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000.

Meanwhile, this weekend, Robotham will be getting behind the wheel of both the Lanotec-backed Ford Mustang in the SupercarGTC class and his usual Ford Ranger in the Super Pickup category at the incredible Bangsaen Grand Prix, which is contested on a wild beachside temporary street circuit.

At the season opener from the Chang International Circuit, Robotham was a race winner in the Mustang in a cameo appearance, while the tight confines of the Bangsean Circuit should play into the hands of the Ranger amidst a competitive field.

Following the event, the Thailand Super Series season focuses on the Buriram International Circuit, Thailand’s home of MotoGP racing.

“It’s great to be partnering with Lanotec, they are a great Australian company that makes world-class products,” said Jay.

“Through the events in Thailand this year with the Lanotec Ranger and Mustang, the team and I have been able to sample a range of the products first-hand, and if they are good enough to keep us going on track, they will be up for absolutely anything!

“When it comes to Lanotec’s core product range, think WD-40, but made in Australia out of environmentally friendly ingredients that are safe to use.

“I’m really looking forward to Bangsaen this weekend, it’s an incredible event, and pulling double duty will be interesting.

“Following that, it’s going to be an exciting year, especially joining Cam Hill and the Truck Assist crew in the Supercar enduros.

“The new Chevy Camaro is a cool car to drive, and the team were winners at the most recent event in Darwin, so there is a lot to look forward to.”

Robotham has an extensive motorsport resume to his credit, with numerous successes earned along the journey.

From go karts, Robotham honed his craft in the highly competitive Hyundai Excel class, before finding success in Toyota 86 racing, both in Australia and New Zealand.

Before the pandemic struck, Robotham was victorious in the Asian TA2 series, where he adapted to V8 power easily, driving for the Corliss Race Engineering squad, in a relationship that continues to this day.

Using that experience to the fullest, Robotham then stepped up to Super3 competition in Australia and took a clean sweep of the race wins from the truncated 2020 season, with that success leading to a Super2 drive in 2021.

Winning the opening race of the 2022 Super2 season paved the path for Robotham to earn a seat in the Caltex Young Stars Bathurst 1000 wildcard entry alongside Matt Chahda.

The crew excelled, mixing it with the best in the business, and rebounded strongly after a mid-race brake change issue to finish 14th.

This season, Robotham has split his driving duties between the Lanotec Mustang and Ranger, as well as a one-off drive in the Super2 series at Newcastle and the opening rounds of the National Trans Am series at Symmons Plains and Phillip Island.

On-track running this week sees cars take to the track from Tuesday through Sunday with a packed schedule of practice, qualifying and racing, with live streaming available via the Thailand Super Series’ channels.
