The Challenge

The MV YWAM PNG vessel underwent scheduled maintenance works at the Austal Philippines shipyard in Cebu. Throughout this period, the vessel and its associated components were exposed to harsh marine and shipyard conditions including salt air, high humidity, fabrication activities, and extended dry dock time.

The primary challenge was ensuring long term corrosion protection and lubrication of exposed steel and mechanical components before the vessel returned to service in remote marine environments. In these locations, ongoing maintenance access can be limited, making preventative protection critical.

The Solution

LANOTEC Steel Seal was selected as part of a preventative maintenance approach to protect exposed steel surfaces and mechanical components following the completion of shipyard works.

Steel Seal is a lanolin based protective coating designed to penetrate metal surfaces, displace moisture, and provide long lasting corrosion protection in marine environments. Application was scheduled once fabrication and high traffic shipyard activities were complete, allowing for optimal surface preparation and product performance.

Rather than focusing on short term cosmetic appearance, the solution prioritised long term asset protection to reduce future maintenance requirements and improve operational reliability.
